Locke Public Library, 3083 Yonge St.
chalk and charcoal, 8 x 10
Ward 25 Don Valley West
Councillor Jaye Robinson
This is where it all began. I had a vague idea I would do one painting per ward. But what? Architecturally significant? Oldest? Quirky? I asked Beverlty Howatson, the librarian at Locke and she instantly took on the research as if it was her own project and collected an armful of Torontonia and architecture, including a book I was not familiar with, David Miller's Witness to a City It then occurred to me, why not libraries? When I showed one of my renditions to Ms. Howatson, she said it doesn't look like me but that's good, it can represent any librarian.
