oil on cardboard, 11 x 15
Paintout #3. Feb 11 2012. Casa Grande is a 45,000 pop. town south of Phoenix. Despite this, they made a great effort to welcome artists; the only paintout I have ever been to where a light supper was offered to all participants. They also hosted a competition for young artists, which is a great idea. I think children in general love to draw and it is only when they reach the 14-16 age plateau that they start to compare themselves with adults and give up. My last art class as a child was when I was 14 and I gave up art for forty years because my drawing wasn't as good as Ben Shahn's (it still isn't).
